Our Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna. Our experts from the Center for Digital Safety & Security are developing state-of-the-art information and communication technologies to ensure that our systems are highly secure and reliable in the context of comprehensive digitalisation and global networking – Hereby we focus on a variety of key technologies like Distributed IT Systems, Internet of Things, IoT, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain Technologies, Quantum & Photonic Technologies, Wireless Systems (6G) and Digital solutions for crisis & disaster management.  

Our Cyber Security Research Field, part of the Competence Unit "Security and Communication Technologies", specialises in applied research for digital security and is a pioneer in developing highly innovative concepts, algorithms and systems for anomaly detection, cyber threat intelligence, penetration testing and cryptography. Through our groundbreaking technologies we are simulating modern ICT and OT infrastructures as well as cyber-attacks, which serve as a basis for conducting intrusion detection research with the aim of helping companies to increase the resilience of their critical infrastructure and protect their assets as best as possible.

 

Junior Scientist (m/f/d) Cyber Security (Limited for 6 months)

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, you will work intensively with applying modern natural language processing (NLP) algorithms and modifying large language models (LLMs) to process cyber threat intelligence feeds.
  • You will study, evaluate, and compare state of the art NLP and LLM solutions, and document their strengths and weaknesses for summarizing security data and extracting relevant information from open intelligence, and will so become an expert in the field.
  • You will apply data science methods in the context of cyber security applications and design new methods for automatic correlation of cyber threat intelligence with security data such as system log data and infrastructure asset information for the purpose of cyber situational awareness.
  • You will propose new solutions for LLM and the automated application of cyber threat intelligence and contribute to established Open-Source projects as well as reports and deliverables in national or international research projects.
  • Thanks to your expertise you will ensure that we make continuous progress towards improving cyber defence solutions such as cyber threat intelligence analysis platforms.
  • You have the opportunity to design advanced attack scenarios in realistic test environments that allows us to master the current challenges of security evaluation and testing.
  • You will have the opportunity to pursue a PhD at the University of Vienna or TU Vienna, who we frequently collaborate with in joint research projects.
  • By regularly exchanging ideas with European cooperation partners and public stakeholders, you will build up your network over the course of multi-year research projects.

 

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed Masters studies in the field of Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science or an equivalent qualification
  • First experience with machine learning and AI, preferably for text processing and NLP
  • Programming skills, for instance in Python or a similar language, and scientific computing
  • Know-how in IT security and hacking tools, as well as web and developer tools is an advantage
  • Interest in publishing results in academic journals and scientific conferences
  • Ability to work in a team, high commitment, interest, and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Good German language skills (C1+), good English language skills

 

What to expect:

The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 55.720,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
